Promoted to Captain May 10, 1862, Major then Lt. Colonel in 1864.  He was wounded at Seven Pines on May 31, 1862. Twice at Sharpsburg on September 17, 1862. Twice at Chancellorsville May 1863. Again at Gettysburg July 3, 1863. He was captured at Gettysburg in July of 1863. Sent to Ft. Delaware. One of the "immortal Six Hundred" Confederate prisoners of war confined on Morris Island, South Carolina under fire of their own guns shelling that island.
