HALL OF HONOR

Pvt. Nathan Martin
1839—1926
Capt. P.J. Thurmond’s Partisan Rangers, Army of Northern Virginia, CSA
Honoured by Descendant: Rev. Calvin Martin, Great Grandson
Parents: John Martin (1799-1874) and Mary Huddleston (1821—?)
Spouse: Rachel
Other: Nathan’s brother John, also served in the same unit.
The Martin boys were Sons of the American Revolution, since their Grandfather, Job Martin, was a fifer in the 5th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line from 1776 until the surrender of Gen. Cornwallis at Yorktown, where Job was present, having fought in that battle.
Their great grandfather, John Martin, was of Revolutionary War fame and was of Scot-Irish origin.
Nathan and John’s outfit fought behind enemy lines and were in service longer than Mosby’s Randers. After the War, the Rangers were well respected and idolized by most of the southern “West Virginians”.
