the Confederacy
 
  October 1, 1860   Democrat John Milton, a supporter of secession, was elected governor of Florida.  
       
  November 7, 1860   In the US national presidential election, Republican Abraham Lincoln was elected.  Democrat John C. Breckenridge received Florida's three electoral votes. 
       
  November 30, 1860  

Governor Madison Perry (who would remain in office until the fall of 1861) signed into law a bill calling for a convention to meet in Tallahassee to discuss Florida’s secession from the United States. 

       
  December 22, 1860  

Elections were held to send delegates to the Secession Convention.   Three area men were selected:  James Gettis, 20th Senatorial District; Simon Turman, Jr., Hillsborough County; Benjamin Wadsorth Saxon, Hernando County

       
  January 3, 1861  

The Secession Convention convened in Tallahassee.  

       
  January 10, 1861   The Secession Convention voted 62-7 to adopt an Ordinance of Secession and withdraw Florida from the United States.
       
  January 21, 1861   US Senators from Florida resign from US Senate
       
  February 4, 1861   Provisional Congress of the Confederacy Meets in Montgomery, Alabama
       
  February 8, 1861   Confederate States of American Founded with 6 States (including Florida). 

Confederate Constitution is provisionally adopted
       
  February 9, 1861   Former U.S. Secretary of War, and US Senator Jefferson Davis elected Provisional President of the CSA
       
  February 19, 1861   President Davis begins Cabinet Appointments
       
  February 27, 1861   President Davis appointments Peace Delegation to Washington, DC
       
  March 4, 1861   First National Flag is raised over Capital (Montgomery, AL)
       
  March 9, 1861   1st Issue of Confederate currency authorized
       
  March 11, 1861   Confederate Congress adopts its Constitution
       
  April 29, 1861   2nd Session of Provisional Congress the Confederacy (Montgomery)
       
  April 15, 1861   US  President Lincoln calls for States to produce 75,000 troops to "still the insurrection in South Carolina"
       
  May 20, 1861   Capital moved to Richmond, VA
       
  June 1, 1861   Confederate Post Office commences operations
       
  July 20, 1861   3rd Session of Provisional Congress (Richmond)
       
  July 25, 1861   2nd Issue of Confederate currency authorized
       
  August 19, 1861   3rd Issue of Confederate Currency authorized
       
  August 24, 1861   Confederate Commissioners to Europe appointed
       
  September 3, 1861   4th Session of Provisional Confederate Congress (Richmond)
       
  October 5, 2011   John Milton takes the Oath of Office, becoming Governor of Florida
       
  October 7, 1861   Cherokee Nation signs alignment treaty with CSA
       
  October 16, 1861   1st Confederate Postage Stamps placed into circulation
       
  November 6, 1861   Nationwide Elections held in the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis elected 1st President of the CSA
       
  November 8, 1861   The Trent Affair:  CSA Diplomats to Europe arrested by U.S. Navy
       
  November 18, 1861   5th Secession of Provisional Confederate Congress (Richmond)
       
  December 26, 1861   U.S. President Lincoln releases CSA Diplomats from Prison arrested in the Trent Affair and apologizes
